My Complete MOT and 6 Month Check-In Explained
Once a year: the Complete MOT
Once a year, I have the Male Complete Health MOT (Β£399). This is our most thorough test, and it’s designed to be done annually rather than more often, for good reason.
It covers over 70 markers, everything from full blood count, kidney and liver function, cholesterol, and a full thyroid panel, through to the things that only need checking once a year, like PSA. There’s no benefit to testing something like PSA every six months, it simply doesn’t change quickly enough to justify it, and over-testing markers like this can create unnecessary worry over normal, expected fluctuations. So once a year, we check everything properly. Not more than that, and not less.
Every six months: the 6 Month Check-In
But a lot can happen in six months. Maybe you’ve started running again after time out. Maybe you’ve changed how you eat, or you’re working on losing weight. Maybe, like me, you’ve picked training back up after an injury and you’re pushing your body in a way you haven’t for a while.
That’s exactly why we built the 6 Month Check-In (Β£239). It’s not a repeat of the Complete MOT, it’s a focused, purpose built test that shows how your body is actually responding to the changes you’ve made. It looks at:
– Full blood count and general health markers, to see how your body’s coping day to day
– Iron and vitamin levels (including Vitamin D and B12), which affect your energy, recovery and mood
– Kidney function and electrolytes, particularly important if you’ve increased your activity levels
– Blood sugar and inflammation markers, an early picture of how your body’s handling any changes to diet or training
– Creatine kinase, which shows whether your muscles are coping well with exercise or are under more strain than they should be
For me personally, this is how I’ll know whether getting back into training is actually doing me good, or whether I’m pushing too hard, too soon. For someone else, it might be about seeing how weight loss is affecting their body, or simply having peace of mind that everything’s still heading in the right direction.
Together, the Complete MOT and the 6 Month Check-In mean you’re never more than six months away from a clear, honest picture of your health, without paying for tests that don’t need repeating that often.
What it costs, and how insurance can help
Across the year, having both tests comes to Β£638 (Β£399 for the Complete MOT, Β£239 for the 6 Month Check-In).
If you have health insurance, this could cost you a lot less than you think. WPA members, for example, can use up to Β£400 of their annual health screening benefit towards this, bringing your out of pocket cost down to around Β£238 for the full year, that’s both tests included. And if you’d rather not pay it all upfront, you can spread that cost across the year with monthly payments, or simply book and pay as you go, whichever works better for you.
We also work with several other insurers and cash plan providers who offer similar health screening benefits, including:
– Westfield Health
– AXA
– Simplyhealth
– Medicash
– Sovereign Healthcare (benefit depends on your specific policy, so worth checking your terms)
It’s always worth checking with your own provider to see what’s included on your policy.

The bottom line
You don’t need to wait until something hurts to check in on your health. A yearly Complete MOT keeps everything covered properly, and the 6 Month Check-In means you’re always keeping an eye on how your body’s really doing in between, especially if you’ve changed how you train, eat, or move.
